Randy Travis Announces First Album In 18 Years

Randy Travis is set release an album of original songs for the first time in nearly two decades. A special audience got to hear it early this week.

    • Randy Travis’ last album of country originals was Around the Bend in 2008.
    • He suffered a career-changing stroke in 2013.
    • In recent years he’s continued to tour with James Dupré often handling vocal responsibilities.

Details (title, release date) haven’t been shared but Team Travis says the new album will feature lost songs that were remixed or remastered by longtime Travis producer Kyle Lehning. The first nibble from the project is a song called “Fish On,” releasing on Friday (July 10).

The first fans to hear the new music were patients and families at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Travis took a trip to visit on Tuesday (July 7) and brought select songs from the album with him. Additionally, singer Alexandra Kay performed several Travis classics.

    New Randy Travis Songs

While this is the first album of originals in 18 years, it’s not his first new music release. Since his stroke, he’s released several songs in various ways. Several — like “There’s a New Kid In Town” — were promoted as being from the vault. The same is true of “Where My Heart Is,” a 2025 holiday song released “From the Vault.”

In 2020, Travis released “Fool’s Love Affair,” originally recorded as a demo by Travis before he became famous. The Boot shares how Charlie Monk found the work tapes and brought them to Lehning for release. It’s nearing 10 million streams on Spotify.

In 2024, Travis released the first of two songs that used AI to recreate his vocals. “Where That Came From” and “Horses In Heaven” stirred an interesting conversation about artificial intelligence in music. Prior to that the focus had been on an artist’s voice being recreated without his or her knowledge. Travis gave his full blessing for these two cuts.

News of the new album comes as Travis continues his More Life Tour. he’ll be on the road through Nov. 8 in Missouri.
